The founder
A life shaped by people, place and growth.
Talia Ormsby is the founder and creator of Artāwhai, an Aotearoa New Zealand-born platform centred on human creativity, connection and opportunity.
Before founding Artāwhai, Talia spent much of her working life in horticulture, across Aotearoa and overseas, before building and running her own business for more than a decade.
That practical experience was later joined by study in Psychology and Anthropology, deepening an enduring interest in people, wellbeing, culture, behaviour and the environments that shape human experience.
What shaped the founder
Grounded in source.
Talia's whakapapa is Ngāti Maniapoto and Ngāti Aapakura. As Wahine Whenua and a horticulturalist, her relationship with whenua, growth and the conditions that allow things to flourish has shaped the way she understands both people and systems.
Her interest in the relationship between art and wellbeing became one of the earliest threads from which Artāwhai emerged.
The whai
The whai holds a personal place within that story. Talia chose it not as decoration, but because she recognised something of herself in the way it moves — responsive to its environment, able to change direction, yet assured in its course.
In te reo Māori, whai can also carry the sense of seeking, pursuing or following. For Talia, it became an emblem of purposeful movement: staying connected to source while continuing forward.
Building Artāwhai
Creator, founder and continuing steward.
Talia conceived Artāwhai and has led its development from its earliest idea through product direction, brand, artist experience and the platform being built today.
She remains closely involved in the decisions that shape it — particularly how artists are represented, how technology is used and the standards Artāwhai is expected to uphold as it grows.
Understand the purpose. Stay curious. Keep refining.
Founder's note
I have never believed that confidence requires having every answer. It requires knowing what you are responsible for, understanding why it matters, and trusting yourself to keep finding the next bearing.
